#9: How To: Prepare for a Career Change Interview – CRITICAL

Your interviews with potential employers are the most important interactions for joining the right organization. To get the most out of them, devote plenty of time and thought preparing for each meeting. It’s important to take your time to properly prepare for a career change interview.

In your interviews be thoughtful and professional as you answer questions and describe what you have accomplished. Be sure to get a good sense of the people you meet, their values and the culture of the organization.

At the conclusion of your interviews, both you and the hiring manager should have a good understanding of each other. Both of you want to be sure you would relate well to the people in the organization and do a good job once there.

Prepare for a Career Change Interview

  1. Before an interview during career change, find out all you can about the organization and the specific group in which you might work. Search LinkedIn and other websites for information and if possible. Talk to someone you know who knows about the organization.
  2. Prepare a list of questions about the organization based on what you have learned about the organization.
  3. Reflect on what you have contributed where you worked and the capabilities you would bring. Review your updated resume for career change and think about how you would respond to questions.
